Until July 10, the Avenida del Portal de l’Àngel in Barcelona will have a new tenant: it is the giant specializing in low-cost clothing Shein, which has opened a pop-up store.
The initiative coincides with the start of the summer sales and the first day has been marked by queues from six in the morning of customers, basically young women, who waited in the street despite the high temperatures.
Customers can try on clothes in the store but have to order online. It is its business model, which basically attracts a young audience that is looking for fashion at affordable prices, below ten euros on average, well below its competitors.
The establishment also programs different activities: beauty, makeup and tattoo workshops, an ice cream and coffee bar, DJ sessions and a second-hand clothing swap session.
Shein already opened an ephemeral store in Madrid for three days at the beginning of the month, on Fuencarral street. The long queues were also very present on that occasion. Its rise coincides with the strong roots that, after the pandemic, firms that sell clothing online are experiencing.
