A construction company in Peru must pay because of the destruction of centuries-old walls from the Inca times the equivalent of two million Euro penalty. The company had to be demolished for the construction of a Sheraton Hotels four around 500 years old walls.
the aim of the government is to preserve the cultural heritage of the country and the rules to enforce, said Minister of culture Ula Holmquist on Friday (local time) at the announcement of the penalty.
The construction company had made in the Unesco world heritage city of Cusco. The construction of the seven storey high building, was stopped in 2016, shortly before the completion of the Work. The authorities ordered in addition to the penalty, that five floors of the building have to be demolished because they were not approved. (sda)
