Lavprisselskabet Ryanair has been ordered to pay a huge fine.
It is the Italian competition authority, which has chosen to punish the airline for misleading its customers.
It writes the Daily Mail.
According to the competition authority, Ryanair as well as lavprisselskabet Wizz Air have been unclear in relation to its rules on luggage in such a degree, that the authority has meant that passengers are being cheated.
Ryanair must pay 22.3 million dollars in fines (3 million euros), while Wizz Air to pay usd 7.4 million (eur 1 million).
Ryanair introduced last year as the new baggage rules, which meant that all of the hand baggage should fit under the seat in front, whilst the passenger would have to pay a fee for larger bags up to 10 kilos.
the competition Authority in Italy felt that the hand luggage is a necessity for any passenger, and warned, therefore, both Ryanair and Wizz Air, which also has these guidelines, to change its rules.
the Cabin should be a part of the ticket. Therefore, the prosecutor the authority of the airlines to be unfair in their business practices, because the customers thus have difficulty to figure out the final price.
Both Ryanair and Wizz Air have rejected the decision.
– We will immediately appeal the decision. There is no basis for a competition authority to issue a decision, which relates to flight safety, customer service, or punctuality. Our baggage rules are transparent and beneficial to consumers, says in a statement from Ryanair.
Wizz Air was of the same opinion:
– Wizz Air baggage rules to comply with the law, and therefore, we will immediately request a court review of the Italian authority decision.
