PostNord, which operates the post in several nordic countries, must once again take note of a noticeable deficit. And again it is Denmark, which is costly.

It shows the accounts for the year 2018, which has just been published.

– Brevmængderne falling rapidly in Sweden, and both Sweden and Denmark a need for a dialogue about how universal service should be designed, when the quantities become smaller and smaller, writes the managing director of PostNord Håkan Ericsson in the financial statements.

Overall traded PostNord for the 37.7 billion Swedish kroner in 2018 and had a net loss of 1.1 billion Swedish kronor.

postnord’s Danish business amounted to 8,6 billion Swedish kroner and had to take note of a significant operating loss of 1.4 billion Swedish kronor. In 2017 the lost PostNord Denmark 1,1 billion Swedish kronor in the operation.

In Denmark suffer from PostNord of significantly decreasing brevmængder and a restruktureringsplan, which has cost billions in compensation to the thousands of sacked employees. It has led to that PostNord has had to ask its owners for money.

There are no numbers given for Denmark specifically, when it come to state aid and the cost of redundancy.

But for the entire PostNord is the item “Other revenue, state aid” for a plus of 1.5 billion Swedish crowns while the “Restructuring” costs of 2.6 billion Swedish kronor.

– Revenue “Communication Services” (letters and mailings red.) fell, because brevmængderne in Denmark fell by 18 percent.

And because PostNord Denmark as part of the restructuring process has decided to no longer offer the distribution of unaddressed advertising and weekly newspapers from 2018, writes PostNord in the financial statements.

“Communication Services” revenue fell to 3.6 billion Swedish kroner in 2018. The opposite goes the better for pakkedivisionen, which increased its turnover nicely to 4.5 billion Swedish crowns.

A positive element in the financial statements for PostNord in Denmark is the three months ending with december. Here, sales increased compared with the same period last year and managed to give a marginal operating profit.

– it has Now been another year, and I can make the status of the 2018 and note that our fremtidsstrategi works well.

But I must also note that the strategy depends largely on the fact that the discussions on the universal postal service in both Sweden and Denmark, leading to a regulation, that allows for economically sustainable results, writes Håkan Ericsson.
