lark, the lapwing, or the Star – all of these wild birds are becoming increasingly rare. More than half of the animals have disappeared since 1980. The extinction of species affects not only Germany but the whole of Europe.
Europe bird experts have compiled their observations for a country-to-country Monitoring. The Overview shows a dramatic decline in farmland birds. The European Bird Census Council in Nijmegen, the Netherlands has compared to how many birds were observed in 1980, on fields and meadows, and how many in the year 2016.

The Europe-wide Figures exceed even the observations made by bird-watchers in Germany. The naturschutzbund Deutschland (Nabu) estimates that there are today approximately 40 percent fewer farmland birds than at the beginning of the 1980s. Also the Federal environment Agency has observed a significant loss.
