A few minutes after their great victory on the lawn of Burnley (1-3), the players of Aston Villa received a brick on their bus just under three kilometers from Turf Moor. The perpetrators, who appear to be hooligans, hit the windshield of the vehicle but did not injure anyone. The local police have launched an appeal for witnesses to clarify the situation on the events that occurred this Sunday.
“We cannot say at this stage whether it was a targeted attack, but investigations are ongoing,” Commissioner Melita Worswick said. “This incident happened as a large number of vehicles were leaving the area after the football game between Burnley and Aston Villa. It is fortunate that the brick did not cause more damage or cause serious injuries or even deaths.
Despite the clear defeat on their lawn, Burnley sided with their opponents by issuing a statement. The Clarets said they were “saddened and dismayed” to learn of the attack on the Aston Villa bus. “We are relieved to learn that no one was injured in the incident. We strongly condemn this behavior and will support Lancashire Police in their efforts to find the culprit.”
