Caroline Garcia, 5th player in the world, qualified without worry for the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne grass tournament on Wednesday by defeating Romania’s Ana Bogdan in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The French, seeded N.2 of this preparatory tournament before Wimbledon, will play her place in the semi-final against the Russian Daria Kasatkina, 11th in the world.
Their last meeting dates back to the group stage of the Masters, last year in Fort Worth, Texas. Garcia, on the road to his coronation, had won in three sets, 7 points to 5 in the tie-break of the last round.
Disappointing during the season on clay, culminating in an elimination in the second round at Roland-Garros, the French N.1 is in renewed form and confidence since the passage on grass, with a quarter of final last weekend in Berlin.
Faced with an opponent against whom she is now four wins in four confrontations, Garcia was able to rely on the quality of her service on Wednesday (7 aces, no service game lost and four break points saved) to facilitate the stain.
A break in the first set and another at the very beginning of the second opened the doors to the quarters of the British tournament.
