After vandalism had been committed in Santa Maria del Aguila’s municipal parks, Santa Maria del Aguila was closed immediately. The City Council approved the granting of complementary works to allow for the closure and perimeter fencing of these parks.

These actions will help to complete these family leisure spaces for children and their families.

Francisco Gongora (El Ejido’s mayor) stressed that these parks “have enormous potential to offer residents of both towns new options for leisure, recreation, and outdoor sports with recreational-family facilities that are of high quality”, but also stated that it was necessary to perform complementary actions in these spaces with the goal of achieving their total adaptation.

In the Santa Maria del Aguila Park, currently in use, will be two doors installed. The perimeter fence will be adorned with flower beds and an area for calisthenics. A network of pathways and living spaces will also be paved.

Three gates will control access to the municipal park Las Norias. This is in addition to its current use. A play area will be added with swings and games for children. In the area south of the petanque courts, a paved area will also be constructed where bio-healthy equipment will be installed. The area will also be landscaped, with squares being created and flower beds on the ground being adorned.

These parks are part of the sustainable urban development strategy “Sustainable Ejido 2020”, promoted by El Ejido’s City Council and funded with European funds.
