“Monkey’s new national symbol of Sierra Leone”

“The new symbol was unveiled by minister of agriculture Joseph Ndanema, at a ceremony where he expressed his honour to the legendary brittiskan Goodall.”

“– We share 98% of our genes with the chimpanzee, we are all monkeys, ” said the 84-year-old Goodall, who now returned to Sierra Leone after in the 90’s have set up the country’s first schimpansreservat.”

“The west african chimpanzee is the only schimpansunderarten threatened by total extinction. The animal is not left in Burkina Faso, Benin, or the Gambia. The population fell by more than 80 per cent during the period 1990-2014, according to the journal, The American Journal of Primatology.”

“In Sierra Leone there are approximately ten per cent of the approximately 55 000 west african chimpanzees who are still alive in the wild.”
