Parenthesis epicurean Saint-Émilion

From the main road, the path that runs along between the vines, climbs smooth… At the top of the hill, the castle is discovered at the same time as the surrounding countryside. Since this fabulous promontory, the highest in the region, it dominates the bell tower of Saint-Emilion and its vineyards to loss of sight. An area of 43 hectares, premier grand cru classé, imagined in the Nineteenth century by Raymond-Théodore Troplong, and reinvented in the 1980s by its vivacious owner, who was already board and lodging. From 2017, under the leadership of its director Aymeric de Gironde, the place is being reinvented, with a new winery, the setting value of a wine without the use of pesticides and the willingness to plow the earth horse, for soil more rich and balanced. Just behind the castle, between the trees, the building of the Nineteenth century stone blonde, now houses four guest rooms decorated with taste by decorator, Mathilde Cardineau. Toile de Jouy, antique furniture and elegant fabrics warm up this country house which has retained its tiles in terra cotta original. Those who prefer to be isolated can rent The House of Vines, a lovely refuge in the heart of the vines and bordered with hydrangeas, which also has a small breakfast delivered each morning. From 1 July to 31 August, David Charrier, the head of the restaurant Les Belles Perdrix, take you to the hosts for its producers to discover the products that they like to work, before you offer them a dinner in The Workshop, one of the lovely suites of the house with views of the park.

Green crystal in the land of SauternesChâteau Lafaurie-Peyraguey and Château d’yquem Deepix

here We are at the château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, in the land of Sauternes, in the largest soil of the Premiers Crus Classified. Between the walls of this building of the Seventeenth century, nestles a nugget of the art of living, a five star Relais & Châteaux, which unites the excellence of a vineyard with a prestigious historical heritage. Everything here is out of the ordinary, like the chapel, discreetly nestled between the two winery’s historic castle and its altar made of red marble and black inspired by the altar of the baptistery of the church of Saint-Eloi. Around the house Lalique enchanted places of its crystals from the ceiling into the cellar, a sacred place of the area where one is amazed in front of the barrel in crystal that kept the grand cru. The décor of this fabulous jewel has been entrusted to the designers Lady Tina Green and Pietro Mingarelli and stay in one of ten rooms and three suites is almost a privilege. Blow of heart for the duplex suite located in one of the towers and offers a splendid 360-degree view of the vineyard. The vine, as reigning mistress of the house, has inspired a multitude of pieces in crystal (Lalique, of course) embedded within the bed frames, dressers, bedside tables, mirrors and sofas. At his table, starry, you savour culinary creations to the subtle harmony of Sauternes, created by the young chef Jérôme Schilling, as the turbot cooked in the steam oven between two staves used in aging the wine for long months. Between visiting the estate, wine tasting of the vintages of his wine (a must !) and discovery of the castles, there is no doubt that this trip will make the beautiful part to the art of living à la française.

Disconnect, House at the heart of the MédocLe English designer Alex Michaelis has imagined a scenery of affinity with the environment, where simplicity is the master word. House d’estournel / Photo press

green Landscape where the hillsides are planted with vineyards among the most famous in the world, the Médoc vineyard stretches languidly along the Gironde estuary, just an hour from Bordeaux. The house’estournel opened last year. This was the home of personal of the founder of Cos d’estournel, Louis Gaspard d’estournel, known as the “maharajah of Saint-Estèphe”. Michel Reybier, the current owner, wanted to pay tribute to him by recreating the architectural ensemble, transforming it into a warm house, for a holiday full of nature. He appealed to the English designer Alex Michaelis who imagined a scenery of affinity with the environment, where simplicity is the master word. The art objects have been chosen by the antiques dealer Christopher of Mirambet, based in Bordeaux. We admire wonders here and there, like dishes, Emile Gallé, beautiful consoles, Napoleon III or even a vase Art Nonew signed Theodore Deck. The rooms, of course, are in tune, very comfortable, some with terrace, view on the park, the vineyards and, in the distance, the waters of the Garonne. Here, time seems to suddenly slow down, to let place to a rhythm forgotten in a place delightfully quiet and unspoilt. A true detox urban to reconnect to yourself and to those you love.

Home d’estournel (05.56.59.30.25 ; lamaison-estournel.com). From 190 € per night.
