FC Schalke have been unbeaten in two games – against Mönchengladbach and Wolfsburg that is not a matter of course. The surprise team of the Bundesliga, Union Berlin, was a guest.
The game started at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in the Veltins Arena.
The game had barely started when Morten Thorsby gave Union Berlin a 1-0 lead in front of 62,271 spectators. Marius Bülter secured Schalke 04 equalization after 31 minutes with a penalty.

But then the spectacle began: Sheraldo Becker brought the ball over the line to make it 2-1 in favor of Union (36′). While some were already thinking about the break, Janik Haberer took his chance and scored the 3:1 (45th) for the team from Köpenick. It was the guests who called a tour their own at the break.
In the 46th minute, Becker made it 4-1 for 1. FC Union Berlin. The S04 then made three changes in the 61st minute. Tom Krauss, Dominick Drexler and Alex Kral left the field for Florian Flick, Jordan Larsson and Danny Latza.
The game so far has been to Urs Fischer’s taste, but there was still a double substitution: Kevin Behrens and Sven Michel came on for Jordan Siebatcheu and Becker (71′). With his goals (87th/90th), Michel eliminated the last doubts about Union Berlin’s victory.
The team from East Berlin literally overran Schalke 04 with six goals and went home with a well-deserved victory.
Due to the defeat, the S04 find themselves in the bottom half of the table: 15th place. Four games and still no win: The home team is still waiting for the first sense of achievement. The Irons are now in first place before the evening game.
With the success in the bag, Union slipped up the rankings and is now, at least until the evening game, in first place in the table. In the meantime, the guests have a proud record of three wins, one point shared and not a single defeat this season. FC Schalke 04 take on VfB Stuttgart next Saturday, while 1. FC Union Berlin host FC Bayern on the same day.
