Cazorla is set to be the capital of mountain sports in May 24, 25, and 26. Cazorla’s City Council has been hard at work for months to organize the V Ultra Trail Bosques del sur, a 102-kilometer race through the Natural Park of Segura, Sierras de Cazorla and Villas. It is a four-test mountain race, which has more than fifty percent of those who have registered.

Antonio Jose Rodriguez, the mayor, stated that the rate of registrations this year was very high. In just one month, 600 people have registered for all tests. He also closed the marathon test registrations before the end. He stated that the inscriptions for the Ultra Trail Bosques del Sur 102 km have exceeded eighty percent, and that there are only 300 places available to reach the 300 registered runners.

The mayor stated that “the runner registration forecasts were optimistic after the positive result of the registration process in where we hope to exhaust every bibs” and that he could see 1,200 runners enjoying trails and landscapes within the Natural Park. He added to the thread that he was studying the Natural Park offices in order to plant a tree on each corridor.

Rodriguez pointed out that we are currently preparing a “great mountain festival that will combine four sports events, two scoring in the Mont Blanc circuit and a half-marathon, as well as a trail that borders natural landscapes close to our municipality.” He also emphasized the importance of Cazorla in “accommodating these types of sporting events that are perfectly integrated with tourist activity and add a quality boost to the cultural and tourist offer of our municipality.”

The V Ultra Trail Bosques del Sur has a lot of novelty features. It is expected to surpass the registrations and complete all 1,200 tests.

Since the race passes through conservation and grade A areas, the Ministry of the Environment and the Offices of the Natural Park of Cazorla Segura and Las Villas have homologated this mountain circuit.
