A workshop that was organized by the City Council’s Department of the Elderly in collaboration with the Asociacion Mayores en Pro under the title of Ciberabuelos’ and aimed at seniors in the municipality, will teach a group of La Zubia’s elderly between 60-90 years old how to use their smarphones.

This initiative began this week and will teach the elderly how to use apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook to send emails from their phones or make videoconferences to people on the other side.

Natalia Arregui (Councillor for the Elderly in La Zubia) explained that this workshop was designed to help with the management of new technology. We have already learned how to use WhatsApp. In later sessions, we will explore other social networks. Additionally, we will provide instructions on how to submit medical requests online.

The older Zubians will learn how to use the external buttons, how to make and receive calls, write messages, take photos, and so on.

Gema Barranco (student of Sociocultural Animation at CDP La Blanca Paloma) led the workshop. She will be offering training in the next sessions on safe smartphone use and the benefits of social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Puri Lopez, the mayor of La Zubia, explains that students have shown great interest in all they have learned, and that they have spoken of the immense utility of this type of training in the latest technologies.

Anyone interested can attend the next session at Cybergrandparents workshop on Friday, June 10th at 11 a.m. at Casa Pinta, La Zubia.
