The security adviser of the US President, Donald Trump, John Bolton, has warned of violence against the Venezuelan Opposition and U.S. diplomats. Any kind of violence and intimidation against U.S. diplomats, Venezuela’s self-proclaimed interim President Juan Guaido or the Opposition-dominated Parliament “would constitute a serious attack on the rule of law” and will undergo a “significant reaction”, wrote Bolton on Twitter.
“The Venezuelan people support”
In this context, Bolton spoke explicitly socialist Cuba, whose support for President Nicolas Maduro’s security and para-military forces is known. In November, Bolton had already announced tougher action against Venezuela, but also against Nicaragua and Cuba. Bolton called the three countries at the time, “the Troika of tyranny in this hemisphere”.
He added in another Tweet: “We are here, to all the Nations call to support the democratic aspirations of the Venezuelan people, when it tries to free itself from the unlawful former President Maduro.” The United States wanted to bring the country to a bright future.
