The first row in the conference hall of the Beijing National Convention Center was prominently occupied: Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Hungary’s head of state Viktor Orban, the Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. At the start of the silk road summit, China defended state and party chief Xi Jinping, the Chinese infrastructure project “New silk road” against international criticism. Xi said:
“We sticking to our open concept. We are not an exclusive club. We rely on green infrastructure and want to drive green investments. We want to protect the common home, in which we live. Everything should be done in a transparent manner, and there will be Zero tolerance for corruption.”
