The White House has announced that Biden will inform the President of the Government at this meeting of an increase in destroyers at the Rota naval base to reinforce the military presence of his country and of NATO in the area.
The head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on Tuesday at the Palacio de la Moncloa to hold a meeting in which he intends to reaffirm the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Sánchez waited for Biden on the access steps to the main building of the complex and, when the car in which the US president was traveling reached his height, he greeted him from afar with his right hand and before he got out of the car .
They then shook hands at the foot of the steps and had a brief conversation before going up the stairs and posing for the graphic reporters flanked by the flags of Spain, the United States and the European Union.
After a new handshake, they entered the building to start their meeting, which is expected to last one hour and in which Spanish sources explain that it is planned to strengthen, update and renew this close relationship between the two countries.
The White House has announced that Biden will inform the President of the Government at this meeting of an increase in destroyers at the Rota naval base (they will go from four to six) to reinforce the military presence of his country and of NATO in the area.
The United States already announced last March that the Rota naval base was ready to receive the two new destroyers.
Bilateral relations, which Moncloa describes as “excellent”, the agenda of the NATO summit that begins this Wednesday in Madrid, the Euro-Atlantic relationship, the situation in Latin America and global challenges such as climate change, health and energy security will also be among the issues they will address.
