The number of companies created last April fell by 8.2% compared to the same month in 2021 and stood at 8,474 companies, the latest data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Closures also decreased, 10.7% less.
In April, 8,474 commercial companies were created in Spain, 8.2% less than in the same month of 2021, which ends five consecutive months of increases, and 1,661 companies were dissolved, 10.7% less, the majority (75.1%), voluntarily, and the rest by merger (14.4%) or for other reasons (10.5%).
The average capital subscribed in the creation of commercial companies fell by 7.2% in April and stood at 33,373 euros. 18.9% of commercial companies correspond to Commerce, and 16.8% to Real estate, financial and insurance companies.
The autonomous communities with the highest number of commercial companies created in April are Comunidad Madrid (1,965), Cataluña (1,702) and Andalucía (1,472). On the contrary, those that have created the fewest companies are La Rioja (27), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (61) and Cantabria (72).
The Balearic Islands (19.4%), the Canary Islands (11.5%) and Catalonia (7.9%) presented the highest annual rates in the number of commercial companies created. For their part, Castilla y León (-26.5%), Comunidad Foral de Navarra (-25.6%) and Principado de Asturias (-25.0%) registered the greatest decreases.
As for company dissolutions, the figure fell to 1,661 after falling 10.7% in the annual rate. This returns to a decrease in the closings of mercantile companies after the increase of 19.9% registered in March.
By region, those with the highest number of dissolutions were Comunidad de Madrid (611), Andalucía (238), Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana (both with 128). On the other hand, those with the fewest dissolved companies were Comunidad Foral de Navarra (six), La Rioja (13) and Extremadura (21).
The highest rates are found in Comunidad Foral de Navarra (69.6%), Region of Murcia (66.7%) and La Rioja (62.5%). On the contrary, the greatest decreases occurred in Galicia (-28.6%), Aragón (-25.5%) and Castilla y León (-20.9%). By activities, the highest percentages of closures are in Commerce and Construction, both with 18.4%.
