The administrative court of Lyon rejected on Monday an appeal filed the day before by the CGT du Rhône against the prefectural ban on demonstrating near a memorial where President Emmanuel Macron must go during the day, announced the union. According to Samuel Delor, of the CGT departmental union of the Rhône and the metropolis of Lyon, this summary freedom was rejected by the judge “by order” and without a hearing.

The prefecture had banned this union gathering on Sunday “to commemorate the social heritage of the Resistance” on May 8 around the Montluc memorial, where the Head of State must preside over a ceremony in tribute to the French Resistance and to Jean Moulin, as the 80th anniversary of his arrest by the Gestapo approaches. A security perimeter has been set up with, in particular, the prohibition of “processions, parades and protest rallies”, indicated the prefecture.

The CGT announced that a rally would take place, but on the edge of the prohibition perimeter. “We maintain a call to commemorate the social work of the Resistance while making the link with the fact that we cannot commemorate and trample the social heritage”, declared Samuel Delor. On Saturday, another demonstration against the pension reform had also been banned by the prefecture. But the administrative court of Lyon, seized by the organizers, had finally authorized it. Surrounded by a large police force, it had gathered some 650 people.
