The American film Director and producer John Singleton (“2 Fast 2 Furious”, “Breathless”) is dead. He was asleep in the circle of his family and friends peacefully, said his spokesperson on Monday. Singleton was 51 years old.

The Director had at 17. April a severe stroke suffered. Of the seven times that the father was treated in a hospital in Los Angeles. On Monday morning, the family had decided to stop life-support measures, the spokeswoman said.

The death of Singleton sparked widespread mourning. “Rest in peace my friend”, wrote the Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry on Twitter. She could not believe that Singleton had died, said the actress. Regina King, who has won this year for the Drama “If Beale Street Could Talk” won the Oscar as best supporting actress, paid tribute to Singleton as one of “the Greatest”. “Your spirit will forever Shine,” wrote the actress on Instagram.

Two Oscar nominations right off the bat

“Get Out”directed by Jordan Peele responded immediately, and paid tribute to his colleagues as a “courageous artists” and as a “true Inspiration”. “His Vision changed everything,” wrote Peele on Twitter.

Singleton took in 1992, with his debut film “Boyz N The Hood”, about the violence in a poor neighborhood of Los Angeles right off the bat two Oscar nominations. He was the first African American and youngest Director to be nominated in the category “Best Director”.

After that, he directed movies such as “Poetic Justice,” “Shaft”, “Four brothers” and “Breathless – a Dangerous truth”. As a producer, he brought the Drama “Hustle & Flow” to the movies. (Dec/sda)
