at Least 84 people have died and about 200 others admitted to hospitals in the northeast of India, after they have drunk hjemmebrændt alcohol.
This was stated by the minister of health in the state of Assam.
– Every ten minutes we get reports of deaths and injuries in different locations. So far around 200 people hospitalized, many of them in critical condition, says the health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He adds that physicians from other areas have been hasteindkaldt to help treat the many poisoned victims.

A polititalsmand informs the news agency AP, that the owner of a local brewery has been arrested along with eight others. Police are investigating whether others are involved.
– We will not spare anyone who is involved in manufacturing and distributing the poisoned alcohol, says the state minister for health.
It is less than two weeks ago, that over 100 people died in another place in northern India, after they had been drinking illegally produced alcohol.
It happens regularly that the indians die of drinking hjemmebrændt booze. Many cannot afford to buy alcohol in the shops and obtain it instead from the unregulated producers.
