Pope Francis during the weekend stated that in theory it is sacrilege to call on argentine soccer star Lionel Messi for God. The 82-year-old pope, who himself is from Argentina, and even is a big fan of football, is a supporter and member of the football club San Lorenzo from Buenos Aires. The same football club as the Danish/american world star Viggo Mortensen is also a big fan of. But he will in no way go so far, that he will call his argentine compatriot for a God.

‘People can say, that he is God in the same way, as they say, ‘I admire you’, but it is only God who can be worshiped’ explained the pope and added:
‘He is a God with the ball on the pitch. It is a popular way to describe Messi. And of course he is an extremely good footballer. But he is not God’.
