Jorge Vilda will remain the head coach of senior women’s soccer for two years more after renewing his commitment with the Spanish Football Federation just one week before the start the European Championship in England. This extends the coach’s relationship with Spanish football’s governing body until 2024.
The technical director for the FEF women’s teams is the man from Madrid. He will continue the project that has placed the national team among the top on the current scene. Spain ranks seventh in FIFA’s historical ranking. Now it faces the challenge of the European Championship in England, which will take place from July 6 through 31. The 2023 World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand.
Vilda was happy about the renewal and highlighted the moment. In statements to the media, Vilda says that she thanks Luis Rubiales as well as the Federation for their vote of confidence prior to such an important event like the European. It is comforting and helps us focus on the objective.
Vilda said, “We have been working very hard for years to place national woman’s soccer at the top, and we have taken very significant steps to match the most elite teams in the world,” adding that she will be leading the team, which has been renewed against Italy in the last preparation commitment before this year’s European championship.
Rubiales, the president of FEF, said that the renewal “serves as a recognition of Vilda’s great work during these years in which national women’s football has taken an enormous leap in quality both within the senior team, and in the lower categories”.
He stated that it was a great pleasure for the Federation to continue to count on Jorge Vilda in a project like the one offered by women’s football. He said that he has a lot faith in the team and future generations, and that he would continue his commitment to women’s soccer, which has been non-negotiable ever since I took office in 2018. Before adding that the agreement with Vilda provides “stability” and “hope to the women’s national teams.
