{"id":3587,"date":"2024-03-27T22:33:23","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T22:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jellypages.com\/?p=3587"},"modified":"2024-03-27T22:33:23","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T22:33:23","slug":"anses-calls-for-strengthening-surveillance-against-the-oriental-fruit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jellypages.com\/entertainment\/anses-calls-for-strengthening-surveillance-against-the-oriental-fruit.html","title":{"rendered":"ANSES calls for strengthening surveillance against the oriental fruit fly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The health agency Anses calls for strengthening surveillance, particularly in ports, to avoid the establishment in France of the oriental fruit fly, \u201cone of the most damaging pests\u201d for many fruit and vegetable productions, in an opinion published Thursday. \u201cIn order to detect any outbreak of infestation as quickly as possible\u201d, ANSES \u201crecommends strengthening surveillance of imported goods and crops in the Mediterranean zone near ports and airports\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This fly, Bactrocera dorsalis, is one of 20 quarantine pests \u201cclassified as priorities for the European Union\u201d. \u201cSeveral outbreaks of infestation have been declared in Italy\u201d and if \u201cno outbreak has been declared in mainland France\u201d, there is today \u201ca high probability of entry\u201d into mainland France of this insect, according to the agency sanitary. Although it poses no danger to humans, the oriental fruit fly can decimate production.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Asia, Bactrocera dorsalis is now present in a large part of sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. This fly, which can develop in \u201cmore than 500 host species of plants\u201d, feeds in particular on mangoes, citrus fruits, peaches, plums, apricots, grapes, avocados or tomatoes. \u201cThe female lays her eggs under the skin of the fruit, the larvae which emerge then feed on the pulp, thus causing deterioration of the flesh of the fruit which can lead to its total destruction,\u201d indicates ANSES.<\/p>\n<p>In France, Bactrocera dorsalis \u201cis the subject of a national emergency health intervention plan (PNISU), which involves the implementation of control measures in the event of an outbreak such as insecticide treatments, trapping of individuals males to limit their reproduction and restrictions on the circulation of plant material.<\/p>\n<p>The most likely route of entry being that of the commercial importation of fruits and vegetables from infested countries, ANSES \u201crecommends strengthening inspections on the goods most at risk, especially if they are not covered by mandatory controls under current regulations, such as passion fruit and avocados for example.
