Shericka Jackson won the Jamaican 100m selections in Kingston on Friday, qualifying for the Budapest Worlds in August, by achieving the best world performance of the year in 10.65. She eclipsed the time set by American Sha’Carri Richardson, who ran the distance in 10.71 at the US Trials the previous day in Eugene, Oregon.
Jackson, 28, also broke her personal best, also 10.71s before the final race, and equaled the fifth-best performance in women’s 100m history. All under a wind of 1.0 m/s. The reigning world vice-champion over the distance (in Eugene), beat Shashalee Forbes (10”96) and Natasha Morrison (10”98). They are all qualified for the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, (August 19-27), with the great defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, automatically qualified and who did not take part in the race.
The double Olympic 100m champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah, finished 5th, with a time of 11”06. In general, the leading trio wins its ticket for the Worlds, in addition, if necessary, to the reigning world champion who has a sesame.
