“I feel pretty good.” All smiles, Sergio Rico is (finally) released from the Sevillian hospital where he had been since a serious accident at the end of May this Friday, on the arm of his partner, Alba Silva. He spoke to the media on the spot, a first since the start of his nightmare, even if he had already given his news on social networks. “The aneurysm is not totally blocked. I will need a few months of peace and rest to recover at home”, he explained to the press, assuring that “everything is under control” and adding that he will have to “follow the instructions of the doctors” . Remember that Rico, 29, was trampled by a panicked mule on May 29 during the pilgrimage to El Rocío (Huelva), the day after the draw in Strasbourg (1-1) which marked the 11th title of PSG champion. Victim of a head trauma, the former Sevilla and Tottenham player notably spent 22 days in a coma.

Big doubts remain about a return to football, but according to some sources, Sergio Rico was above all only a few centimeters away from losing his life. “Very moved and very happy”, the Spanish international goalkeeper (1 selection) wants in any case to believe in better days. “The brain is intelligent, it eliminates these types of events. It was like a dream in the end, I woke up in the hospital and thank God I was able to go out today,” he smiles.
More than a dream, it’s a nightmare that is ending for Sergio Rico, who also split a salvo of thanks for all the messages of support he has received in recent weeks. At PSG, the celebrations of the title of champion of France had in particular been muted at the end of last season, out of respect for the Spaniard, in everyone’s mind. The Parisian group had not forgotten either when resuming training this summer, in Poissy. “I would like to say thank you, thank you for the respect that the media has shown, to my family of course my wife in the first place, but also to the football world. Both my club, PSG and my former team, Sevilla FC, and my teammates. I also thank former teammates and friends who have sent me messages of support,” he said. And to conclude: “To all the people who took a moment to write to me and support me, I would like to thank you. At a time like this, that matters all the more.”
Under contract until 2024, Sergio Rico joined Paris Saint-Germain in the 2019 off-season, first as an understudy for Keylor Navas, then for Gigio Donnarumma, with a parenthesis on loan to Mallorca during the second part. of the 2021-22 season. He played 24 matches in Rouge et Bleu, including the Champions League semi-final won against Leipzig (3-0) in 2020, in Lisbon.
