Former Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, victim of a cerebral hemorrhage on Friday, is no longer in a worrying condition and his vital prognosis is no longer engaged even if he remains hospitalized, announced Tuesday the Dutch club.

“Edwin is still in the intensive care unit but his condition is stable. His life is no longer in danger,” Ajax said in the statement sent at the request of the former player’s wife.

“Every time we visit him, he communicates. You have to be patient and see how his situation evolves,” added Annemarie Van der Sar.

The 52-year-old former goalkeeper, who also wore the colors of Manchester United, was on vacation on a Croatian island when the incident occurred.

Van der Sar quit his post as general manager of Ajax Amsterdam in May, which he had held since 2016, after the Amsterdam club’s worst season in 14 years, ending in third place in the Dutch league behind Feyenoord Rotterdam. and PSV Eindhoven.

Considered one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Van der Sar played for Ajax between 1990 and 1999, winning the Champions League in 1995.

He then won the C1 again in 2008 with Manchester United. He also has 130 caps in the Oranje jersey.
