Villarreal’s Spanish winger Alex Baena’s complaint against Real Madrid’s Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde for an alleged assault has been dismissed, Madrid’s Superior Court of Justice (TSJM) announced on Monday. The judge of the Madrid investigating court in charge of the case considers that “the commission of the offense which gave rise to the constitution of the case is not duly established”, according to a press release from the TSJM.

The facts for which the Villarreal attacking midfielder reported Valverde to the police date back to April 8, after the 3-2 victory of the “Yellow Submarine” over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu. According to Baena’s version described by the Spanish press, Valverde waited for his opponent in the parking lot where the teams’ coaches park and when the Villarreal player appeared, the Uruguayan international allegedly punched him.

On the sporting level, the local press reported a few days ago that the sports investigating judge proposed a five-match suspension against the Real Madrid player for these facts.

The Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary body must now rule on the proposal: if implemented, Valverde would miss Real Madrid’s first five league matches for the upcoming season, which starts on the weekend of August 13.
