The Stade de Reims formalized on Friday the arrival for three seasons and an optional 4th of the 29-year-old Franco-Maltese midfielder Teddy Teuma, from Union Saint-Gilloise (Belgian D1) of which he was the captain.
Born in Toulon, Teuma is 23 years old and works as a delivery driver in his father’s business, an artisan butcher, when he moves from Hyères (National 2) to Boulogne-sur-Mer (National) in 2015. Two years later, the midfielder signed his first professional contract with Red Star, just relegated to National, with whom he was champion in 2018. Teuma then discovered the Belgian 2nd division when he joined Union Saint- Giloise. The Brussels club won the D2 championship in 2021, finished second in D1 the following season and returned to Europe 57 years after its last participation in a continental competition.
Having become captain of the formation, Teuma achieved several remarkable performances, in particular on the European scene the following season, where his team lost in the quarter-finals of the Europa League against Bayer Leverkusen (German D1). He had a full 2022/2023 season, with 14 goals and 17 assists in all competitions.
Teuma has 31 selections with Malta, of which he has been one of the senior players since his first cap in September 2020. In Champagne, the midfielder will discover Ligue 1 for the first time.
