The absence of Jordan, 25, is linked to chronic migraines while Fainga’anuku, 23, is nursing a calf injury. The two players won Super Rugby last weekend with their Canterbury Crusaders against the Waikato Chiefs (25-20).
They will be replaced in the New Zealand group called to go to Argentina by Shaun Stevenson and Tevita Mafile’o. The Rugby Championship brings together the four main nations of the southern hemisphere (South Africa, Argentina, Australia and New Zealand).
Great hope of New Zealand rugby, Will Jordan has just returned to competition after eight months off due to chronic migraines and dizziness linked to an inner ear problem. On Saturday, Ian Foster wanted to be reassuring, however, referring to his package as a simple “precautionary measure” in view of these antecedents and the long journey to South America.
“We keep the main objective of 2023 in mind,” he added, referring to the World Cup (September 8-October 28) which will see the Blacks start against France, hosts of the competition. Top scorer in Super Rugby this season, with 13 tries, Fainga’anuku signed up last month with French club Toulon (Top 14), which he will join after the World Cup.
