World No.6 Andrey Rublev, one of the players in form of the season on clay, was stopped on Tuesday in the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Madrid by another Russian, Karen Khachanov (12th), 7-6, (10 /8) 6-4.
Rublev remained on a first title in Masters 1000 won in Monte-Carlo in mid-April followed by a final in Banja Luka (Bosnia), lost against the Serbian Dusan Lajovic (40th).
Khachanov will challenge world No.2 Carlos Alcaraz or German Alexander Zverev, outgoing finalist, for a place in the last four in the Spanish capital. This will be his first quarter-final on ocher in the Masters 1000. All the knockout stages of the men’s table are scheduled for Tuesday.
