Diane Parry, 96th in the world, fought well but she ended up being eliminated Thursday in the second round of Wimbledon by the Croatian Petra Martic (29th) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The 20-year-old Frenchwoman saved two match points before losing to Martic, who has already played in the Round of 16 of the Major on grass three times.

She will try to climb again in 8th, but the task will be complicated since she will face the world N.1 Iga Swiatek for this.

For her first participation last year, Parry had reached the third round at Wimbledon (beaten by finalist Ons Jabeur), equaling her best Grand Slam result already obtained a few weeks earlier at Roland-Garros.

On Thursday, the Frenchwoman made the break to lead 5-4 with her serve to follow to win the first set. Which she did with authority on a service winner.

But Martic then gradually took matters into her own hands: in the second set she broke to lead 5-3 and equalized at one set everywhere on her next service game.

In the deciding set, Parry quickly conceded his serve and allowed Martic to race into the lead. The Croatian even won by once again taking her opponent’s service after 2:09 of the match.
