Israel’s right-wing conservative Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu is failed after the parliamentary elections at the end of September with the formation of the government. He gave a mandate on Monday to President Reuven Rivlin.
Rivlin announced on Monday evening, according to media reports, he now wishes to grant Ex-military chief Benny Gantz to the middle of the Alliance of Blue-and-White the mandate to form a government. Netanyahu’s challengers have four weeks time for the difficult Mission, to form a coalition.
Netanyahu had already failed after the last election in April with the formation of the government. The Prime Minister, has ruled since 2009, continuously, said in a statement on Facebook, it was not able to bring Gantz to the negotiating table.
Mutual accusations
Netanyahu and Gantz had already made in the last weeks of each other for the difficulties in the formation of the government responsible. The Likud had Blue accused of a blockade-and-White last attitude towards a unity government with joint distribution among the partners.
Gantz stressed, however, that his party would not sit in a government, “the Chairman must make a serious charge”.
Netanyahu is threatening an indictment in three corruption cases. After a four-day hearing on the allegations of the attorney General wants to decide by year-end on a charge.
Gantz for the secular coalition
in Addition, had formed Netanyahu directly after selecting a Block with the right and religious parties. He insists, in a government Alliance, to be incorporated. Gantz, however, aims at a secular coalition.
About a week after the election on may 17. September had issued Rivlin Netanyahu charged with forming a government. Blue-and-White had become in the election with 33 mandates, although the strongest force.
The Likud came to only 32 mandates. Netanyahu, however, received 55 recommendations of the members of the office of the Prime Minister – Gantz, by contrast, only 54. Neither the right-religious and the center-left camp has a majority to form a government. (nag/sda)
