Australian Nina Kennedy and American Katie Moon were crowned joint world champions in the pole vault at the Worlds on Wednesday in Budapest, having cleared 4.90 m. The two pole vaulters stalled on the same bar (4.95 m) and performed the same total number of attempts during the competition.
They both passed 4.90m on the third try, equaling the best world performance of the season achieved by reigning Olympic and world champion Katie Moon (32) in early July.
Australian Kennedy, 26, is enjoying the greatest success of her career with this world title, having won the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The two athletes have agreed not to compete in a jump-off. They hugged and celebrated their victory together. Finland’s Wilma Murto won the bronze medal by clearing 4.80 m.
