The organizing body of the European Cups specified that James would no longer be able to play until January 8, subject to a possible appeal. James’ headbutt on his Toulon counterpart, in the 70th minute of the match lost by the French club (22-19), on December 15 in Northampton, could have resulted in a six-week suspension for the 30-year-old player.

The disciplinary body, however, took into account mitigating circumstances (non-contestation of the facts and a clean disciplinary record) to reduce it by half.
