The best-selling album in France in 2023 is Carré de Werenoi, while Jul still dominates the ranking with eight projects in the official Top 200 unveiled Monday January 8 by the National Union of Phonographic Edition (Snep).
Crowned “Male Revelation of the Year” in May 2023 at the Flames ceremony, which highlights popular cultures, the first album by the anonymous rapper from Montreuil was certified double platinum in December. With It’s when he goes out, his 19th studio album released in June 2023 and ranked sixth in the Top 200, the inexhaustible Jul reaffirms his popularity with the public and manages to raise a second album, Cœur blanc, to the eleventh place among the twenty best sellers of the year.

The 33-year-old Marseille rapper releases an average of two albums per year: Jul thus maintains a constant flow of listening on the platforms between new and old records (none more than three years old is counted by Snep). To talk about just one album, the big winner was Werenoi, the artist who takes great care to keep his identity secret. The rapper sits on a podium completed by the Belgian Hamza with Sincerely released in February and the French Ninho, again in the Top 3, this time with NI, published in June.
The only female artist in the twenty best solo albums, Aya Nakamura confirms her popularity in 2023 with DNK, which takes 14th place in the ranking. “The performances of women across the entire Top 200 are encouraging and progress compared to last year, with 36 projects classified,” underlines Snep in its press release.
