Becoming a florist runs in my family. Even my mother works in this profession. Immediately after school I started my apprenticeship, which I completed in 2012. I have been a master in this craft since 2016. I am currently working at Blumen Dahlmann in Münster-Hiltrup.
What has always fascinated me about the job are the creative possibilities. I can express myself freely at work. The tasks are also very different: I develop wedding decorations, design exhibitions and make flower arrangements and wreaths for funeral services. I always work closely with the customer. Good, individual advice is very important.
On Saturday in Berlin, all participants have four tasks to complete. We already know three, the fourth is a surprise. I will design a bouquet, a planting work and then also a room decoration. We are allowed to prepare structures or containers, but everything that has to do with plants will be implemented in Berlin under the eyes of the inspectors. I have two hours for the room decoration, 45 minutes for the bouquet and 90 minutes for the planting. We have to complete our tasks in the given times.
I’m not nervous about the championship. But even though I won the preliminary round in North Rhine-Westphalia, I don’t know what place I will achieve. It will depend very much on the form of the day. In Berlin I’m competing against the best from all federal states, which is a nice and exciting challenge for me. My incentive is to be able to break out of everyday life a little by participating, to gain new experiences and also to have a nice time in Berlin. I look forward to working together and getting feedback on my work.
