Numerous actions have been taken to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies. The Municipal Center of Culture of Churriana De la Vega has also benefited. These investments total 600,000 euro and are part of an aid program by the Andalusian Energie Agency. They depend on the Andalusian Government together with the Churriana City Council, which contributed more than 82,000 euros.
Particularly, San Roque, Arco Iris and Virgen de la Cabeza public schools have had their air conditioners and lighting systems replaced. They also installed solar panels, which will reduce energy consumption and increase the economic value of the corresponding invoice. The Municipal Center of Culture also saw significant savings thanks to the conversion of their lighting system to an LED system and the development of photovoltaic power for self-consumption of the municipal agency.
Antonio Narvaez (Churriana de la Vega mayor) congratulated himself for “the development and close institutional collaboration with Junta de Andalucia which has undoubtedly borne fruits”. He stated that the objective was to improve the design of sustainable buildings and satisfy the needs of Churriana. These actions promoted natural light in buildings, and an energy transition to a cleaner and more efficient lighting system. The maintenance of the best temperature has also been improved by the renovation of windows, awnings, and the limitation of the sun’s rays in particular months.
This project is part of ambitious initiatives like the Municipal Urban Comfort Plan which includes citizens in the construction a more open, modern and accessible municipality. The Churriana de la Vega Eco Park is still open for residents to dispose of their belongings and waste from Monday through Saturday. Mayor Antonio Narvaez has helped to influence the Churriana City Council to adhere to the Sustainable Development Goals contained in the 2030 Agenda. This case focused on the adoption and promotion of more sustainable and inclusive environments, as well as equitable and high-quality education for all.
