Maracena will celebrate a special day next September 15: The festival of the Virgen de los Dolores (the patron saint of the city), This year’s celebration will be different due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the Virgin can still be venerated. The patron saint will actually be displayed in Solemn Veneration following the recitations of the Holy Rosary, followed by the Eucharist at 8:00 p.m.

Traditionally, a devout hand-kisses was performed on this occasion. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Governing Body of the brotherhood decided to replace it with a reverence, or prayer, before the Virgin of Sorrows. Additional rules were established regarding hygiene. These included the need to wash hands at entry, disinfection footwear, use of a mask and the maintenance of safety distance.
