The City Council of La Zubia approved the first Plan for Equality between Men and Women within the municipality. This document has been a work product of the Department of Equality for many years and has been endorsed by many groups and associations throughout Zubia.
With the votes of all municipal groups except Vox, the City Council plenary session gave the green light to the plan.
Rebeca Sanchez (Councilor for Equality of La Zubia) stated that the first equality plan is finally in sight after years of hard work by various government teams. It had, for various reasons, remained in one drawer until now.
The La Zubia equality program will be in effect for four years (2022-2026). It includes a number of measures that promote and encourage active participation by women in public and private sectors (political and social, cultural, and decision-making) as well as real equality between men, women, and the metropolitan municipality.
Councilor for Equality stressed that the plan was not an internal document of City Council operation. It is an instrument that will apply transversality to all municipal areas in terms of equality and that collects citizens’ demands through the associative fabric La Zubia.
Puri Lopez, La Zubia’s mayor, highlighted that among the plans contemplated, the promotion and support of women’s groups in the municipality, as well as the implementation of awareness campaigns against gender-based violence, are the most important. The councillor said that he wanted to thank all groups and associations that participated in the first Plan for Equality between Men and Women of La Zubia. This plan was a culmination of a year-long effort by the government team to get it off to the ground. Today, it is a reality.
