The jury for the Pelayo Prize, which is chaired by Antonio Garrigues Walker, has decided to award the award for the XXVIII edition to María Luisa Segoviano for her intense, committed and extensive dedication to the world of labor law and social security, from teaching and the magistracy. The prize, which is endowed with 30,000 euros exempt from taxes, thus recognizes her long and fruitful career in the legal field and her contribution to Spanish society.

Born in Valladolid in 1950, Segoviano is a magistrate of the Supreme Court having taken office in 2006. Since 2020 she has been president of the Fourth Chamber of the Supreme Court, being the first woman to hold the presidency of a chamber of the High Court.

Prior to passing through the Supreme, the recent winner of the Pelayo Award, held the positions of First Instance magistrate in Bilbao from 1987 to 1989, and Social Justice magistrate-judge in Valladolid until 1996. In addition, she was president of the Chamber of Social Law of the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León between 1997 and 2006.

On this occasion, the award has once again gone to a woman, making merit of the important work carried out in the world of the judiciary, which doubles the value of this recognition as it is the winners’ list of winners during the twenty-seven editions of the award. mostly male.
