Matthieu Chedid, Louane, Soprano, Calogero, Vanessa Paradis, Hoshi… Gaëtan Roussel’s new album, released on November 24, brings together a five-star cast. Éclect!que brings together around ten titles that have already existed for around ten years, plus six new songs. A success.
After celebrating the 25th anniversary of his group Louise Attaque with the reissue of their first album, Planète Terre, Gaëtan Roussel judged that it was time to talk about him and his music in the present. “I started to have quite a few titles that could correspond to a complete album. And if it was the time to bring together these titles, it was also the time to write new ones” confided the singer in September at the microphone of M Radio.
Among these titles, the duet with Soprano, My totality, marks the spirits with its stripped-down tone. Its catchy and sober melody makes this title a surprising but not unpleasant discovery.
In the song We do not cry in the water, Mathieu Chedid and Gaëtan Roussel form a voice and guitarist duo. This pop-rock track full of poetry shows all the complicity between the two artists.
“It’s an album of encounters which, ultimately, began about ten years ago,” he says. “When I was looking to write new music, I was looking to meet new people. I’ve known M for a while but I had never worked with him in the studio, hence the invitation. I was also looking to be surprised by other voices, other encounters and that’s when I came across the voice of Adeline” Lovo, explains the singer to M Radio.
His duet with the young singer Adeline Lovo is surely the greatest success of Éclect!que’s unreleased titles. The sweet voice of the singer, spotted on social networks thanks to her covers of urban songs, blends perfectly with that of the singer with millions of records sold. Believe me ! is the most listened to track among the six unreleased songs on the album.
Éclect!que stands out for its unique duets, some composed ten years ago. Through this album, Gaëtan Roussel takes risks and proves that his style adapts to all the tones of French variety.
Interviewed by Alouette radio about a possible solo tour with this new album, Gaëtan Roussel answers: “no”. Yet the singer “loves it”. He indicated that he would return next summer with his “comrades from Louise Attaque for a festival tour”. A solo tour will come later, “in the meantime I’m going to do a little more music in the studio” assures the singer.
