Things are not going any better at the Girondins de Bordeaux, almost two months after the dismissal of David Guion and the appointment of Albert Riera, on October 11. Under the leadership of the Spaniard, Bordeaux first lost twice in three matches, before two encouraging victories against Annecy (3-1) and Paris FC (1-2). The time it takes for the mayonnaise to set. Or not. Two defeats, against the Trojans in crisis on Saturday (0-1) and against Quevilly-Rouen Métropole, relegated, on Tuesday (3-2), brought Bordeaux into the red zone of Ligue 2, in 17th place.

Gérard Lopez, president of the Girondins, came out of his reserve on Tuesday after the disappointment at QRM. “Tonight’s match, like the results since the start of the season, are not up to par, neither with the history of the club, nor with the support of the supporters, nor with the means which have been put in place to turn the club around and give it back the ambition he deserves,” noted Lopez in comments relayed by France Bleu Gironde.

Referring to his “disappointment”, Lopez calls the players “jumped” and worries about a group “not up to the level”. “We must look at individual situations with lucidity,” warned Lopez. “We need an electric shock,” added the 51-year-old businessman, owner of the Girondins since 2021. “No one has an assigned place in the team, from sports management to the players.”

Lopez reinforced Albert Riera in his duties as coach, he who has the “endorsement” of his boss “to carry out all the changes that he deems necessary”. Bordeaux, which came very close to a return to L1 last season, is ten points behind Grenoble, 5th, and has been relegated since Tuesday evening.

“As long as it is possible, we will continue to think that we can be in the first 4-5,” Riera said after the defeat at QRM. Bordeaux travels to Angoulême this Saturday (2 p.m.) in the 8th round of the Coupe de France, before hosting Saint-Étienne on December 16 (3 p.m.). ASSE, 8th in L2, has just thanked its coach Laurent Batlles.
