The wish for the welfare of each child (and nearly every adult is): That there is somewhere a secret door that leads us out of the everyday. The 11-year-old Coraline finds in this year’s family is a piece of the Opera house now, actually, such a door device in a parallel world and can’t believe their luck. Here, the parents suddenly have time for you, no one confuses your name with “Caroline”, there is chocolate ice cream instead of vegetable soup, and you can have what you want – a dog or a horse, a trampoline and a Sony Playstation.
Just two questions: Why have the parents here buttons instead of eyes? And why does Mark sound-Anthony Turnages music is still the same in this world, everything else is more colorful, plumper, but at the same time threatening?
Spectacular performance of the current Hand
The answer to the first question, the most well know in the audience. Tim Burton’s animation film “Coraline” is a classic and so well made, that not only children fear, if at the end of the severed Hand of the “other mother” Coraline up in the normal world.
The largest performance of this for children over eight years recommended Opera house production, this is not because she mimics Burton’s Film, but my pictures for the story has found. The young Swiss Director Nina Russi has staged and uses together with the designer Stefan rieckhoff, even before the spectacular appearance of the current Hand, all the resources of the theatre.

As a fireplace rotates, a pair of walls move, and the gray turns into the normal world in the jungle of the world-like in parallel. Ferns come in here, about the Wallpapers, the parents have button eyes, glittering costumes, and the old neighbor’s place inside, with their morning coats, also a few years to their age and excess weight.
Only Coraline itself remains the same: curious, brave, lonely. It is the longing for the heat that drives you into this other world and later return back. The real Gestresstheit day-to-day parents to her rather than the false kindness of the other. And buttons instead of eyes does not want to you really.
Why the composer has the two worlds are not sharper characterized?
Deanna Breiwick is this Coraline, and it takes her eleven-year-old: Because her voice sounds operatic, but also directly defiant or bored. And because she can do girlish Gestures and glances, but don’t overdo.
the Latter to do exceedingly relish Coraline’s old neighbours (Sen Guo and Liliana Nikiteanu), the actors were inside. And also Iain Milne is on the theatrical as the in this strange house living Mister Bobo, who celebrated successes with his piepsenden and fiependen mice orchestra.
Which brings us to the second question: Why not more has been made of the British composer Mark-Anthony Turnage from this template? Why didn’t he characterizes the two worlds of the sound sharper? Or maybe even a little bit catchy?

approaches, there is Yes, not only in the mice orchestra. The father always brings back dance Drive into the action, and the choir of the lost children, singing in the mirror, sounds scary. But these are moments; over long distances, you can hear a music that wants to curry favor in any case – and the audience at a safe distance keeps.
cheers to the Happy End
After all, the performers hearty take countermeasures. By Ann-Katrin Stöcker led the Philharmonia Zurich uses everything the score of colours, rhythms and effects. Deanna Breiwick sings complicated lines, they are actually easy. And Robin Adams, gives a really sympathetic father, who is promoting his vegetable soup and the chocolate ice cream in the highest falsetto.
Irène Friedli has finally found, as a mother, a gloss role: With merciless overly the rule of law prevails over the parallel world, in the normal world she conveys in every note of it is also fairly eerie presence of absence of one can be quite the multitasker.
But the Happy End also radiates. And the audience, which made for two hours, not a Peep, cheers.
