Meerhout With Groezrock in Meerhout is Friday and Saturday the zomerfestivalseizoen on the hallway shot. The punk – and hardcorefestival was re-organized after a sabbatical year in 2018 due to lack of volunteers. 13.000 music fans came to enjoy.
Groezrock was the 27th edition. Normal had the counter already this year at 28, but last year there was an edition of the road because the organizers too few volunteers to lend a hand to stabbing. This year was a partial generational turnover made by the volunteers and it seems the festival again on the way to also in the following years, the unofficial start of the zomerfestivalseizoen. That many music lovers after the sabbatical year of Groezrock have looked forward to the return of the festival was Friday night already evident.
Dropkick Murphys
The opening day of the festival attracted immediately just about 6,000 visitors to the site, which has a capacity of 10,000 people. Saturday was a bit better, with 7,000 visitors. That was probably some of the better-known headliner, the American celtic folkpunkband Dropkick Murphys. But also lower on the poster came with Millencolin and Dog Eat Dog what more familiar names along. The visitors saw how to Groezrock this year, five stages were counted, instead of the three stages previously. The organizers want it that way to give more room to local and lesser known talent.
“We got the last years often is the accusation that we are still the same bands continued to invite,” says programmator Hans Maes. “That’s why we now have a little more gone for promising bands and artists who are not often in Belgium were.
