The Swiss hospitality industry is economically challenging years on the road to recovery, but not everywhere. In the year 2018, more guests and more Places has been registered, but less sales. This was said on Thursday in Bern at the annual media conference of Gastrosuisse, the industry Association for hotels and restaurants.

Due to the good economy and positive consumer sentiment have been in the restoration in the past year, against 10’000 new work (including part-time). Approximately one-third of the decline was since 2008, compensated.

The consumption of hotel and catering services has increased, 2018, the annual Per capita expenditure in the out-of-home consumption and sales per overnight stays are decreased.

The Inn out-of-home consumption in 2018 was, according to extrapolations to a total of 22,917 billion Swiss francs. In comparison to the previous year, this corresponds to a decrease of 702 million francs (- 3 percent). Despite the increasing number of guests in the restoration ( 2.4 percent) dropped out-of-home consumption.

New record in the accommodation

The lodging was recorded in 2018 with 38.8 million overnight Stays, a new record ( 3.8 percent). Revenues per overnight stays, however, been declining for years, and has also declined in 2018 (- 0.1 percent).

To the issues which concern the industry, is also one of the development of the operation. The differences between the regions are large. Especially low population municipalities recorded a decline. In the largest Swiss cities, however, the number of farms increased.

The industry is around 29’000 hotels and restaurants recorded a total of. The hospitality industry is one of the largest employers in the country. The industry is about 260’000 persons employment and against 8000 learners.
