In difficult weather conditions, the American Jessica Pegula (world No.5) dominated her compatriot Coco Gauff (N.3) 6-2, 6-1 to qualify for the final of the WTA Masters in Cancun (Mexico) on Saturday .

During a game interrupted by a strong wind and rainy episodes (two interruptions of around ten minutes), Pegula was the strongest, breaking Gauff (19 years old) six times.

At 29, Pegula will compete for the first time in her career in the Masters final on Sunday, either against the Polish Iga Swiatek or against the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, who face each other later in the day.

Gauff and Pegula, also paired in doubles, still have to finish a group match on Saturday that was interrupted on Friday, before possibly playing the doubles semi-final in the evening.

The program was delayed and completely disrupted by the rain.

The poor playing conditions and the quality of the courts fueled criticism from players this week, as well as the choice of an outdoor tournament in Cancun in the middle of the rainy season.
