The international community has called on the renegade Libyan General Khalifa Haftar to stop the military offensive on the capital, Tripoli. The UN security Council called on Haftars troops after a meeting on Friday (local time), “all troop movements”. Also, the foreign Ministers of the G7 countries called for the immediate cessation of the fighting in Libya and warned that civilians were in danger.
Haftars troops had launched on Thursday an Offensive on Tripoli. The advance began, while the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, was in Libya to find a political solution to the crisis in the country.
In a meeting with Guterres on Friday Haftar have made it clear that he plans no interruption of the Offensive, reported to the UN special representative Ghassan Salame to the security Council, according to diplomats information. Before his departure, Mr Guterres had met during his visit the chief of the internationally recognized government, Fajes al-Sarradsch, was, “deeply concerned”.

The Federal Foreign office in Berlin, expressed his “great concern” over the developments in Libya. Federal foreign Minister Heiko Maas (SPD) warned in the short message service Twitter in front of a “further military escalation”.

The Libyan National army (LNA) had conquered, temporarily, the destroyed airport of the city, before they were beaten back, according to the government. The so-called unity government in Tripoli is weak and has large parts of the country under control. Numerous militias have spread in the country, and are allied in various ways with the unity government in Tripoli or the counter-government in the East.
