Hasselt Hogeschool PXL chose vzw Over The Clouds to best Limburg Volunteer organization of the year. Above The Clouds is a non-profit organization that deceased children photographs to the parents in a respectful way, to help with their loss.
“I’m sorry…She doesn’t get”. Those words sound on april 2, 2012 at Sharon Geirnaert, the mum of newborn Nina. To her daughter forever to be able to recall, takes Sharon in touch with a photographer friend, and thus was born the idea that was eventually renamed the non-profit Above The Clouds. the
“My child, my daughter, is dead. We enjoy the time that we get together with her. In disbelief, we are from one emotion to the other qualities. A first kiss. What is she beautiful, too beautiful, an image that I never want to or will forget.”
“Hundreds of photos we take. Nina along with me, her dad, grandpa, brother. These are photos that I can show, photos of my little girl, give a face, an image to the outside world. All seem still too little. I have them. I can to make her look as I want and I see time and time again to something else. I’m looking for the details and I can provide my girl with a lot of pride to everyone’s proposals without the shocks. And proud I am. A very proud sterrenmama that this also to others. Photos that I cherish… forever and always. My beautiful Nina, visible to everyone.”

Accidentally come Sharon and Anneleen French, a midwife from Ostend, with the same idea in progress, each story wonderfully on Facebook. They met and quickly discovered that the same purpose a band creates a driving force may be behind a big project. Their goal? Every sterrenouder in Belgium the possibility to offer them pictures of and with their sterrenkindje. That happens with a lot of respect, love, experience and totally free.
So it was that on april 14, 2016 on Top of The Clouds was born. Thanks to two women with a private, but equally important experience. In the meantime, Above The Clouds in Flanders, with a team of 130 photographers and 30 administrative staff. Annually, there are 600 calls.
