the Fossil of a 518 million-year-old ’havmonster’ may be to rewrite parts of the life history. It writes LiveScience.com according to the Science.dk.
the Fossil is derived from an extinct sea creatures with 18 tentacles around the mouth, which researchers have dubbed Daihua sangiong.
The extinct havmonster shares several anatomical features with the modern ribbegopler, which is vandmandslignende sea creatures.
Ribbegopler that live in deep water, are known for their amazing light show that lit up the deep sea the dark.
The new findings can give us crucial insight into the ribbegoplernes development, tells the Danish palaeontologist Jakob Vinther to LiveScience.com according to the Science.dk.
He was a researcher at the uk’s Bristol University and is co-author of a new study where researchers have analysed the newly discovered fossil.
Many researchers have believed that ribbegoplerne were among the first animals that evolved on Earth, but Daihua sangiong bear the stamp of having been the ancestor of both ribbegoplerne and many other families of animals, believe the researchers.
– Now, this international team may be demonstrated that ribbegopler has a long line that precedes them, says Jakob Vinther to LiveScience.com according to the Science.dk.
Conclusion about what the nature of the new fund is linked to, however, have given rise to debate.
– While the discovery of Daihua sanqiong is impressive, it is difficult to say whether this ancient creature is part of the genus, as ribbegopler comes from, says professor Casey Dunn to LiveScience.com according to the Science.dk.
He is a professor in the ecology and evolutionærbiologi at Yale University, but has not been involved in the new study.
In spite of the disagreement call Casey Dunn, however, also the new finds “incredibly exciting,” writes LiveScience.com according to the Science.dk.
