Gent At café Pallieter in Drongen is Friday morning the trail of the Belgian Championship Cycling presented. The organization of the wielerevent on Sunday 30 June this year in the hands of the City of Ghent. The BK is a tribute to Gentenaar Walter Godefroot, who twice Belgian champion.

The location for the performance of the PA was not selected by chance. Café Pallieter is always the base of the fans of Walter Godefroot (75). The ex-cyclist can show an impressive record. He won two times the Tour of Flanders and the ten stages in the Tour de France and was also a two time Belgian champion. In 1965 and 1972, and crowned himself to the Belgian champion.

An iconic photo of Godefroot graces the campaign of the BK 2019. The route runs along his parental home in Luchteren. The starting signal is given to the town hall and after a trip through the Flemish Ardennes and 7 laps in Did come the riders cross the finish line at the Watersportbaan. “I follow cycling today, from a distance, but, of course, to do this tribute with me. I am a born citizen of Ghent, but have all my life in Drongen lived. Some are only after their death is honored. It does the pleasure that they haven’t forgot me”, says Godefroot.
